Fun at Fillmore Glen: Unity Games comes to a close

The overall winning Unity Games team: Alpha Squad

Every September, Unity House comes alive with a shared purpose: to celebrate, appreciate, and strengthen the incredible community we’ve built together.

With more than 360 dedicated employees — including over 200 outstanding Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) — we set aside this special time each year to focus on what matters most: our people.

At the heart of this celebration was our biggest and boldest Unity Games yet; a month-long hybrid event designed to bring staff together through fun, wellness, and a little friendly competition.

In past years, staff came together for a one-day, “corporate challenge”-style event. But this year, in an effort to broaden participation and reach more members of our growing team, the Fun Coordinating Committee reimagined the Games as a month-long series of team-based activities. The results paid off.

76 staff members, across 19 spirited teams, competed throughout September in challenges that showcased creativity, teamwork, and Unity House pride. From scavenger hunts and dress-up days to a talent shows and appetizer cookoffs, the Unity Games delivered connection, laughter, and a healthy dose of competition. Whether participating or cheering on coworkers, staff brought an infectious energy to every challenge.

As the Games unfolded, so did a month of meaningful appreciation — especially for our Direct Support Professionals, whose work lies at the heart of our mission. DSPs were treated to 20-minute professional chair massages and received healthy snack packs and surprise treats from local bakeries. They also took home thoughtful gifts including deep-tissue Theraguns and Bluetooth tracking tags.

In addition, we proudly recognized 56 employees for hitting major career milestones with Unity House. Their dedication is the foundation of our success, and we’re honored to celebrate their journeys.

Unity Games culminated on Sept. 30 with a gathering at Fillmore Glen State Park in Moravia. Staff came together for a shared lunch in the park, a live round of Family Feud, and an award ceremony honoring the top teams.

Congratulations to our 2025 Unity Games Champions: Alpha Squad!
The team consisted of Auburn Day Hab staff member Ryan VanDoren, Megan Baran, Jill Chayka, and Tim Mitchell.

None of this would have been possible without our Fun Coordinating Committee, whose creativity and commitment made this month so memorable — and to every participant who brought their best selves to the Games. Here’s to carrying that spirit into the year ahead and making 2026 even better.
