State legislators visit Unity House

One state senator and three assembly members visited Unity House programs in their respective districts this summer.

All expressed support for Unity House’s mission and pledged to advocate for adequate funding for people with disabilities.

Assemblymember Anna Kelles (AD-125) met with Unity House CEO Liz Smith at Danby Road IRA. The visit began with a kitchen table discussion on what it takes to support people with disabilities.

The Danby IRA is home to people who need significant, hands-on support. After her tour, Assemblymember Kelles thanked Program Manager Jodi Fesetch and her team of direct support professionals for doing such important, difficult work.

State Sen. Rachel May (48th Senate District) and Cayuga County constituent liaison Aileen McNabb-Coleman visited Unity House’s Auburn Day Hab location at Market Street in Auburn.

Staff expressed their gratitude for the state grant that May’s office helped secure. The grant will allow for significant accessibility improvements to be made at Auburn Day Hab, North Street Road IRA and at GRACE House.

Assemblyman John Lemondes (AD-126) and Director of Legislative Affairs Amy Karlnoski also visited the Auburn Day Hab program at Market St.

Unity House is incredibly grateful for our local legislators. Thank you for helping to uplift the voices of the people Unity House supports as well as our dedicated staff members. We appreciate you all!
